Services

Adaptive performance is rarely scientifically assessed, despite the millions businesses invest in creating and operating teams. Our services combine team and leader assessments, feedback, goal-setting, and development to maximize observable results in the near term.

Team, Leader and Cohort Assessment

Our Team Stage Development (TSD) model identifies the 12 behavioral indicators of a team’s ability to communicate, collaborate, innovate, and perform adaptively. Our TSD survey and interview maps a team’s strengths and deficits in these 12 areas, and we summarize findings and recommendations in a detailed report.

We typically use the TSD model to assess cohorts of 5-10 teams, identifying trends that impact overall effectiveness in the business, such as issues related to company culture, lack of reliable feedback loops, and conflicts between functions.  We recommend steps to better align teams and leaders and to significantly improve the handling of work complexity.

Our Leadership Versatility Development (LVD) survey assesses leaders across the same 12 behavioral indicators compare to a leader’s current competencies with their team’s stage of development. For example, a team comprised of individuals accustomed to working in isolation requires significantly more level-setting and direction to build collaboration, while a facilitating leadership style is more appropriate for a more seasoned, interdependent team.  We benchmark a leader's skill set and highlight alignment or gaps between the leader’s current strategies and the team’s needs.

Action Planning

Team development: After surveying your teams, we partner with leaders to develop actionable, measurable plans to increase adaptive performance.  The resulting action plan will consist of concrete steps to increase high-priority team capabilities, based on the 12 key factors in the assessment.  Our research has linked these factors to higher levels of collaboration.  The team’s action plan will also include specific change management steps, which we will validate with selected senior leaders and team members to ensure a path to adoption.

Team leader development: We can partner with senior leaders to develop an action plan for team leaders to strengthen their versatility.  Beginning with our leadership assessment, we work with individual team leaders to jointly define a set of actions to expand their capacity and creativity in supporting their teams on complex missions.

Improvement: Training and Mentoring

Our improvement service is comprised of a customized workshop followed by targeted mentoring.  Prior to the workshop, Team Adaptability personnel will interview the team’s leaders and the Business Owner about the team’s mission to ensure alignment between business objectives and the team’s goals. Then in the workshop, we guide team members in self-assessing their strengths and deficits in adaptive performance and assist the team in setting improvement objectives and an action plan aimed at increasing observable, near-term adaptive performance.

Topics addressed in the workshop may include strategies for increasing ownership of the work, psychological safety, team learning, clarifying roles, and feedback loops.

Following the workshop, we provide mentoring on a regular cadence over 3-6 months as the means to maximize success with the team’s goals.  Additional exercises will be introduced as needed to support team goals.

Intervention: Development and Intensive Coaching

When an organization must quickly confront a gap between the needs of a time-sensitive, complex mission and the team maturity / leader versatility, we offer rapid interventions. Our customized service delivers dedicated engagement with your teams and leaders, and is structured around milestones defined in terms of weeks rather than months or quarters.

Our approach consists of high touch coaching and developmental exercises that teams and leaders practice under our observation in short increments of 2-3 weeks (Sprints).  Each Sprint 2-3 week Sprint targets specific measurable and observable outcomes, with an evaluation to gather lessons learned and support planning for the next Sprint, and regular checkpoints with senior leadership.

The goal of the intervention service is to shift team and leader behaviors by one full stage.  This type of rapid movement would significantly impact team collaboration, adaptability, and overall performance.
